More blockchain or more cryptos? The high-tech sector is not spared by the current economic climate. Does the field appeal to you as a place to build your career? Or perhaps you’re already an experienced professional? Securing a role in an emerging sector could well be a smart way to secure your future career. For C++ programmers in particular, blockchain development is a field brimming with opportunities.

Le Journal du Coin brings you this promotional article in collaboration with Jobbio.

The blockchain sector is recruiting

Indeed, according to the Blockchain Council, the demand for blockchain professionals has increased by 517%. compared to last year. While bitcoin is probably the first thing that springs to mind when the field of crypto in the broadest sense is mentioned, its scope extends far beyond cryptocurrency alone. From fintechs to pharmaceutical supply chain management, via the development of Web3.0 and the prevention of counterfeiting in the fashion and/or luxury markets, blockchain has, among other things, the potential to revolutionize traceability and transparency.

Thanks to its technological innovations, the blockchain sector can be a great help when it comes to traceability and authentication.
Luxury is one area that can benefit from blockchain and cryptos

So much so, that globally the market is expected to grow to $163.83 billion by 2029, up from $7.18 billion in 2022, an average annual growth rate of 56.3%. But for many organizations, blockchain technology is still a relatively new phenomenon. It is greeted with apprehension and mistrust, not least because its function is poorly understood. For example, John Ward, CEO of ServBlock, a blockchain-based biotech software company that digitizes material traceability, recently declared at the Dublin Tech Summit:

« This is one of the challenges we face, trying to bring innovations to market. It’s kind of a double-edged sword. The cryptocurrency industry has stimulated the adoption and development of many technologies. Alas, a few bad actors have caused scandals that have tainted the real added value that blockchain can bring. »

Between cryptos and blockchain, change the focus

Ward goes on to suggest that moving away from the concept of « monetary value » is also essential for the mass adoption of blockchain technology in various sectors. A view particularly relevant in developing countries for example, or in the pharmaceutical industry, where traceability and regulation are major concerns.

« In our case, we exchange trust. We describe this to our customers as a digital certificate that collects all supply chain data from raw materials through to materials testing. Thus, we bring utility and credibility to blockchain. This not only ensures total traceability of data, but also of the goods that circulate. »

For mass adoption, we need to abandon technical complexity and think in terms of use cases
Blockchain offers much more than just a store of value

A view that Ronit Ghose, head of the future of finance at Citi, also expressed at the roundtable:

« Value transfer is intrinsic to blockchain technology. It’s a way of moving, storing, transacting and building things, but it’s also a way of creating value. This brings us face to face with our responsibilities, and clearly poses the sector’s next major challenge: regulation ».

A new perspective

In the European Union, the European Parliament recently adopted the « Markets in Cryptoassets (MiCA), regulations on crypto-asset markets due to come into force between mid-2024 and 2025, in order to protect consumers and investors. The legislation draws a distinction between cryptocurrencies and tokens. Indeed, the latter are excluded from the scope of MiCA as they cannot be split and repeated.

Ultimately, however, for blockchain to be adopted on a global scale, to create new jobs and permeate everyday lifeIt doesn’t have to be understood at a granular level by those who don’t work in this field.

« Forget blockchain! Interact with it as you would with money! We use it from morning to night, but most of us don’t even realize it anymore. It’s just a means to an end. We buy food, we use it for transportation. We never think about the technical implementation or monetary policies that allow us to do that. »
